About this blog
Hi there. This is a place where various members of The Scruffs and friends will be hanging out. You can find out much more about us by checking out the links for our main site; you can listen to extracts from all of our albums (again, check the links) and it will generally be a place to keep up to date with gigs, album releases and all that kind of thing. But, a brief history of the band…
The Scruffs have been around in one form or another forever - well, actually since the mid-seventies in Memphis, Tennessee. It was in Memphis, at Ardent Studios, that the band cut their first power pop album, Wanna Meet The Scruffs?, which was an immediate critical success and became one of the great cult power pop releases.
The band moved to New York and sad and bad things happened (yeah, I know I’m cutting out the good bits - get on to the main site and read it in all its gory detail there). Although, in the period up until the early nineties they recorded several more albums in Memphis:
- Angst
- Teenage Gurls
- Midtown
- Back From The Grave
The founder singer/songwriter of the group, Stephen Burns arrived in Scotland in the late 90’s and met up with some of the great musicians hanging about in Glasgow at that time. The result has been three albums recorded at CaVa Sound Studios in Glasgow, Scotland, although a strong Memphis connection remains with some at least of the mixing and all of the mastering done back at Stephen’s home from home, Ardent:
- Love, The Scruffs
- Swingin’ Singles
and last, but not least, Pop Manifesto. The graphic on this page (designed by Brandon Seavers of AudioGraphics Masterworks in Memphis) is part of the artwork for this album which will be released shortly.
You can listen to tracks from any of these albums by following the links on the right.
